I have a problem with finding running shoes... or shoes in general...

My feet are wide. I usually can only fit into a New Balance 2E or 4E.. those are typically not running shoes.

Does anyone else have this problem.. If so what shoe do you get? What brand etc.? Thanks!

hi ara,

i had the same questions a couple of weeks ago. the good people here helped a lot. there's a thread somewhere that talks about running shoes and has links to resource sites.

i can't stress how important shoes have been to my ability to become a consistent treadmill runner. whenever i've tried to run in the past, i've given up because of ankle and knee pain. it turned out that the pain was due to the lack of proper running shoes. i've since bought some asics for underpronators and have no abnormal joint pain.

you can do some google searches with key words like "find running shoes" and stuff like that for informational articles. i eventually was able to figure out what shoes i needed by the wear patterns on a pair of old sneakers.

perhaps the best place to purchase shoes online is www.zappos.com. they also have helpful sales people when you call that are really knowledgable about running shoes. of course, the best idea is to go to a shoe store that specializes in running shoes, but for rural folk, that's not so do-able. (zappo's has overnight delivery and free, postabe paid return service.)

i also have wide feet. i wear 10.5 EE New Balance. however, after my research, i decided i wanted asics. the first pair i ordered was too small and i returned them. the 11 EEEE is perfect for me.

I love Zappos. If the shoes don't fit, they'll take it back no questions asked. If you don't like it, they'll still take it back -- and they don't charge restocking fees. It really is risk-free shoe shopping.

They also do price matching. I've had them match and beat prices for running shoes I've gotten from them.

Great website. I need to get some wider shoes.

I never even knew that they came in alternate widths until recently. How do you measure that if I am not sure what my width would be? I guess I would have to go to a store and ask which width would be appropriate.

Ara I have the same problem. My wife says I have Hobbit feet. (so maybe my problem is worse)

I will have to check out zappos.com , I hadn't heard of them and have been using a pair of New Balance cross training shoes since I couldn't find any other brand with shoes wide enough for my Hobbit feet.

New Balance 1223 running shoes in 2E width.
( I pound them a bit at 202#. I could use a little more cushioning. )
