...but I feel the need for just a bit of self-congratulation. I'm currently living a very hermit-ish lifestyle. All my close friends are spread across the country and I'm keeping my fitness kick a secret from them until I go on a cross country trip in a few months and can exhibit my new body in person. But enough with the introduction...

Today, I ran my first 5k! Ever!

(OK, OK, it was on the treadmill and it was at the blazing speed of 5mph/36 minutes, but still....)

thank ya, thank ya!

my legs are in semi-bad shape right now. i may have very minor shin splints. (tim kept telling me not to over do it.) although i don't think i've overdone it by too much, i won't be running that far again without some walk breaks for a couple of weeks probably.

release,
i think you'd be surprised at how resilient the body is. i bet the next time you run it, you wont need any walking breaks at all!

you will kick that 5K's arse.

After college I moved away from home and rarely see my parents anymore. I plan on surprising them just as you are with your friends.

Haha, I want to do the exact same thing. I'm not going to visit my folks/old friends until Christmas, and I'm super excited to surprise them with my new self.

Keep it up, everyone! We can DO this!

Great job HoundDog! That is a notable accomplishment. My first 5k back in May 07 was in 36 minutes. You take it easy and you will continue to progress.

yah, you were right scott! i ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill yesterday and probably could have gone further, but didn't want to press too much.

thanks for all the replies!
