Ok folks,
Let's hear 'em. What are some of your pet peeves at the gym?
I'll start off with a few...
1) your heart rate monitor has taken over my heart rate monitor.
2) perfume/cologne guy/gal. seriously?!?
3) rerack your weights aka me doing reps of reracking your weights. (i'm gonna have to start writing that down in my book)

I'm losing thirty regained pounds by April! I'm upping my workouts (from zero) and also doing low carb intermittent fasting. I love steaks, high quality coffee, reading, writing and dark chocolate. I'm a student and freelance writer.

The guy who leans on the weight rack to do one of his lifting moves. Seriously dude, use a bench and get out of the way.
Nosy people who like to peer over at your elliptical display to see how you're doing.
The mirror guy. Honestly...I understand you have to check your form while you're lifting. No worries. But when you're constantly checking yourself out while running on the elliptical, your head craned to one side to stare at yourself...don't you see that you look like a twerp?
Grunters. Nuff said.
People who don't clean their cardio machines off when they're done.
People who change the tv channel without asking if anyone's watching what's on.
Stinkers.

I have a podcast and blog that I've been working on since August of 2006. I created a new email and account herre on Traineo since I can't get in touch with the folks here to forward my password. Working on a new pitbull type podcast that will be coming out in March. No nonsense NOT for the faint of heart.

Excessive noise grunting man.
I get it... I make a few grunts towards the end of some of my sets. However, a few people make birthing sounds while doing each set.
Don't make me think those noise are the same noises you make in other areas of your life. *bleh* I just barfed in my mouth a little.

1. Old naked men hanging out in the locker room chatting away with no towels near them for coverage. ( I have seen this group of guys chatting when I began my workout and when I finished 1.5 hours later they were still in the locker room naked and chatting. Ugh! )
2. When someone is singing along with their mp3 player during their workout.
3. People who don't clean the equipment when they are finished using it.

aww.. well, don't worry, you'll be one of them before you know it.. AND maybe they were in your position before? just think of all the other ppl who aren't at the gym, and maybe that's why they are the way they are
i HATE HATE HATE all the people who make the new years resolution to lose weight... so they go to the gym for like 3 weeks straight in january... and take up ALL the cardio equipment that us regular gym goers have been using for the past couple YEARS, and then quit after those 3 weeks.
it's miserable when you go into the gym at every hour of the day and it's packed.. and you can't get a machine
i went yesterday at 9pm (my school gym is open until 11:45) and there wasn't a single cardio machine. half of these ppl are going to stop going, and i have to suffer.

When I started to study while having a full-time job at the same time, I allowed my appetite and my body to do whatever they wanted as my mind was occupied with gathering knowledge. Meanwhile my body gathered fat.
One day I got on a scale and hated the result more than usual. So it's either ending up with wobbly body parts or feeling good about myself.

I'm living in Hong Kong and what bugs me are
- those old Chinese gramps who use the treadmill beside yours. They run at a constant medium speed, then accelerate and keep on going like duracel bunnies while one suffers an asthma attack trying to keep up with them.
- the vamped up girl in stilletos and fake LV bag sitting on the bench press bank and watching her boyfriend lifting weights. And when she gets bored she's doing her make-up... again!!!
- the middle-aged housewife who switches the Gym-TV to some cooking channel. Thanks, I still need to run 40 minutes and I'm getting hungry already.

1) The person who passes up 8 empty ellipticals to use the one right next to me. And of course, they smell like a whole farm on a hot summer's day.
2) Trainers who give you that strange look for no reason. Don't you have someone to help lift weights?
3) That guy who reads the newspaper on the leg press machine. Can you move your a**?
4) The guy who does the number 2 in the bathroom and does NOT close the stall door. Are you kidding me?
5) My gym's CRAPPY hours

My pet peeve is the "ladies" who think the crunch and leg lifts machines are tables at Starbucks and sit on them for an hour and half and "chat". Of course they refuse to move and let others use the machines, because they are "working out" on them (then listening to them in the locker room afterwards complaining about how they come to the gym for 2 hours every day and haven't lost a pound).
Sorry for the rant, can you tell they bug me?

people who leave their garbage (i.e magazines, empty water bottles , tissues, chewed gum etc.) in the cup holders.
-also, when the cleaning crew vacuums and uses the heavy chemicals and cleaning stuff on the floor while you are working out so you are heavily inhaling the poison. or they are repairing something in the ceiling and dust from everywhere is flying on to you. oh so that reminds me, i appreciate when people clean the machines, but oh do i hate when they take the bottle and spray spray spray it in the air and all over so everyone can inhale that poison too! cant people aim into the towel? oh and another one, again i appreciate people trying to clean the machines, but not with their USED SWEATY TOWELS-ughhh! better off not cleaning them at all!
ok you can tell i watch peoples habits alot at the gym!

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Wow, I guess I have a pretty good gym!
I am a bit annoyed at the resolution crew, crowding the gym and parking lot and having NO freakin' idea what they're doing. I've said it before, but the one and only squat rack is not for your barbell curls; if you can curl the weight, you can lift the damn thing off the floor. Now get out of my way so I can do a real exercise. It's the inconsiderate ones that get to me...
As for old naked guys, there are a couple, but not as bad as it was when I was at Bally's... I remember the gaggle of floppy/wrinkly old men (like a bunch of ppl wearing potato sacks made out of skin), spread out through the locker room and nearly surrounding me in the shower, singing along to Unchained Melody. That was a little freaky. And who the hell pipes Unchained Melody to the morning gym crowd??? I don't miss that place.
Other than that, up until yesterday we did have an inordinate amount of treadmills out of order.

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

I'm so with you, man. Training on the elliptical next to the 39 pound model who can run faster than I can while reading a book, putting on her makeup AND talking on the phone... while I'm there just hoping to finish my ½ hour without dying... GRRR!!
Quoting: jenngetfit people who sweat so much that they sweat on you-ewww!!!
Hmm, I don't usually sweat on people, but I did make a puddle underneath the elliptical yesterday.
A SWEAT puddle!! Geesh, what ARE you people thinking!!??
Quoting: scottredhanded I get it... I make a few grunts towards the end of some of my sets. However, a few people make birthing sounds while doing each set.

Quoting: highsteaks Nosy people who like to peer over at your elliptical display to see how you're doing.
Oh. Sorry ;)
my #1 pet peeve? My gym has the BEST prices in town, but doesn't have all the machines I need. It's tiny. No squat-helper-thingie whatchamacallit, very few freeweights and the lockers are too small for my gym bag.
So now I have to find a new gym

i dont mind if people sweat. i think its awesome if you get a good sweat going but not if you sweat on someone else. bring a towel and wipe yourself up before it starts flying on to someone else!
the other thing i hate is that-when im doing my hiit work outs and now suddenly the person next to me is in competition. everytime i increase my intensity they increase theirs. it is so funny. the only person im in competition with is myself. its funny b/c im not in good shape but i notice when i start working out hard all of a sudden people need to increase their intensity. it happens almost all of the time.
also, i hate what ill call "reservers." they put their water bottle down and come back an hour later. they are reserving their yoga spot or their cardio equipment for them and/or their friend. have some respect people!!
one other thing-people who scream across the gym to their friends and have conversations or people who have conversations over you. lets say there are 3 of you in a row riding a bike and you are in the middle and they are talking the whole time, loudly having a conversation. how annoying!!!
i keep thinking of more. blatant spouse cheating! at least be a little discreet people.

You guys have no idea the amount of wanton nudity going down in the locker room of my gym.
Seriously... no idea.
While completely naked people:
Watch TV
Have in depth conversations
Talk on the telephone
Sleep
Go #2 (I dont know why, but this one disturbs me.)
Groom
and much more...
Don't get me wrong, I'm comfortable with the locker room, but this particular gym is starting to turn into a roman bath.

Why on earth do some guys hang out like that in the Locker Room?
This is seriously my biggest issue with the Gym I go to. My wife says that this sort of thing is not happening in the ladies locker room, so why do some guys use the locker room as a social nakedness time? I really don't get it and find it very disturbing. I don't mind people talking in the locker room, but please put some pants on.

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I am trying to get fit and thin so that I can stop being the 'man that keeps getting fatter' and to help get my triglyceride count down to normal levels.

I would settle for just the pants if I had to make a compromise. But a shirt as well would be ideal.
