Which is more accurate when when using a treadmill..the calories burnt, distance walked or the length of time you do it for?

more reliable in terms of what? i dont think treadmills lie in terms of distance or time, but as far as calories i wouldnt rely on them. they tend to overexaggerate and cant really be accurate if they dont have all of the info which none of them ask (such as height, weight, gender, athletic ability, etc). they are just an approximation.

This is true; distance and time are simply measurements, so will be reasonably accurate, whereas calories burned is a calculation (and a flawed one at that). Consider the calories a relative approximation, just like the numbers here on Traineo.

You would be better off knowing how your doing with a Heart rate monitor. It will tell you the distance you walked/ how long you were in your HR zone/ average heart rate with which you could gauge how well you did on the treadmill!

Thanks guys - yes I was thinking that the calories burnt that the treadmill displays could be a little dodgy...
I used to have one of those Polar HRM..gonna have to have a dig around for it and try and find it...
