I have been watching a few of expertvillages youtube videos of kickboxing, so I got a pair of everlast grappling boxing gloves for kickboxing. Do you think these would work for practising jabs, hooks etc? It says for light boxing bag work, but I don't know what light means, so do you think this would be ok? I'll be thowing 15 jabs, then 15 hooks, then a rest to start with. I'll do that set a couple of times.

So is that ok or too much for the gloves to handle?

Heres a picture of it:

The knuckles have a gel padding

Depends on what you're hitting and how hard. If you already have them, you might as well use them. I've read they're not made very well but this was from guys using them to train in MMA.

Well i'm punching the bag. As in for kickboxing. I'm not smashing it to pieces, but i'm hitting hard I guess.

Man! Those gloves would have to be for super light bag work. I just bought a 100 lb. heavy bag and don't yet have the right gloves. In fact, all I have are sailing gloves-- with a little less padding on the knuckles than yours. I beat my hands purple the first time I used them. Good luck. I'm going for the max. cushioned available.

So it won't break the gloves or anything? I was punching the bag and as long as the padding is right on the knuckles they are basicly fine to punch I guess

Those gloves are made for hitting people so hitting a padded bag won't hurt the gloves.

I would be worried about your hands, boxing gloves would be better in this sense.

Stitch, Do your hands hurt after punching? Do you have any broken blood vessels or any bruising? If not, go ahead with those gloves. I'd like to try them out but, personally, I think I hit too hard for that style. I really get the old 100 lbs. bag moving.

They only hurt a little if I go all out. But that's it, and only sometimes. I'm just a little concerned about my pinky finger on my right hand, I broke it around 4 months ago or so.... It's been out of the cast for around 2 or so months. Its healed, but I dont know if I should punch anymore. I broke it by punching something really hard.

Why not sell them on eBay and use the money to buy new ones?

No... I couldn't do that. My partner gave them to me. He says they're better than the other ones. Im thinking, stuff it, I'll just punch the bag.

I would also invest in some hand wraps to protect your knuckles. I would get some 14 oz boxing "Training Gloves" Title is a great brand for the price, you can get these pretty cheap and they will last. http://store.titleboxing.com/hookclastrai.html

Good luck

Of course you can use those... Remember also that you should be punching to hit w/ your first two knuckles predominantly, not your pinky knuckle.

I hit a heavy bag w/out gloves for a couple months.... Hurt like hell, but no permanent injury.

I have sparring gloves which are padded on the back so it doesn't hurt the other guy when you spank him in the kisser.

If I was using punch bags etc.. I just use bare hands cos I kind of like the raw feeling. I'm not a masochist but I do like the feeling of really training and the scrapes and bruises that come with it.

Like the shoulder strap marks that dig in when you carry a heavy bergen, like the weight of the bar on the back of your neck when doing heavy squats, and the cuts and bruises after rugby. Yes!! I love being a boy and geting all muddy and battered, then having a hot bath to wash it all off. Blood, sweat and tears. Love it!!

Who cares?? I wasn't born to satisfy every woman, though the lord knows I'd try if I had the chance.

When they get me, they get what they're given, ha ha. And there seems to be quite a group out there who are growing tired of the pretty boy cult and are wishing there were some real men around. Cue me and my farm boy hands, ha ha
