Hi everyone,
These forums are great! I'm a newbie and I'm looking to improve my posture.
I know working on my abs will help me, but does anyone have specific exercises or everyday things they can recommend for posture improvement?
Thanks, Andrea

My weight has gone up and down repeatedly in the last few years. I managed to lose a lot of weight before getting married 2 years ago, but have since gained most of it back.
I hope to find new motivation on this site, and hopefully make some new friends. This time I want to lose weight and keep it off. I'm trying to not think of it as a diet, but as a change in lifestyle.

You may look a little silly, but I've read in several places that you should get one of those big excercise balls, and use that as a chair at your desk. Not only does it force you to sit up straight, but the subtle balancing that your body does all day strengthens your ab and back muscles.

I think one way is to pull your abdomen muscles in so that your belly would not jet out. This can be done while walking, sitting....... This helps you keep your back straight and in good support

Mathematics graduate, looking for direction in life... I think I've got it now.
I love cycling and am pretty good. However, with a heavy heart, I've had to swallow my pride and accept that I'm just too old to realise my aspirations of the professional ranks. My backup plan is to become a cioccolatere (in Italia)... So I'll be keeping my cycling-up, to avoid the consequences of a sweet-tooth! After all, I still have it in me to get into the upper echelons of the amateur ranks.

Hi Andy,
Have a look into the Alexander Technique -- maybe try to find a teacher local to yourself... I started taking AT lessons to improve my posture and it has helped in so many more ways: I really can't rate it highly enough!
I shaln't flood the forum with a detailed description; I'm no expert, after all. However, the Wikipedia article on the subject is pretty informative and thorough.

Great suggestions. The Alexander Technique sounds interesting, but I may have to wait 'til I get back to Canada to find a teacher.
Thanks!

I am a contractor for a monolithic IT firm. This translates into a lot of time spent sitting. I have always been a big guy, but I am tired of being obese so I am going to utilize the power of community to hold my feet to the fire to stay active.

This is an excellent idea and one that I hope to implement myself. Think about the small muscle twitches that would have to occur all day to hold yourself up right. When I get to implement this I will start a thread on how it is going.
