It upsets me that just when I start to get on a kick for working out, I get sick. It is a complete stop of all engines. What can I do while I am sick? Nothing, I just sit around. Not to mention the fact that eating pretty much goes down the drain when I stay home from work. Should I just bide my time? What can I do?

Hi,
I am also getting over a massive headcold/sinus/ear/sorethroat thing and I'm not going to beat myself over not exercising like I wished I could do...I do continue to exercise, but not as long and not as often when I am sick. I'm a huge fan of chicken noodle soup while ill and this always seems to make a difference in my well-being.

Good luck to all of you. May we all get over our sicknesses quick and be back at it in no time at all!!

I've always found that I lose weight when I'm really sick--my body is working overtime to fight infection, and I'm less inclined to overeat because I feel lousy. When I'm sick at home but not laid up, I do what Chris does: Walk a bit to get some fresh air. Even those slow burn calories add up.

Same for me. I don't workout, but stay in bed and usually don't have an appetite. I do good to get down a can of soup.

I've always heard that if it is just in your head, like a runny nose or a sore throat. It was okay to exercise. But if it is in your chest or you have body aches you should take it easy. You also might try cutting your calories to make up for missed workouts

If your wicked sick eat simple nutritious foods. Chicken noodle soup is the prime example of this. Also sleep as much as you, your body is run down and needs to repair itself. If your just feeling under the weather, go for a walk and sleep more than you normally would.

Being sick while can be caused many things, it is in the end your body trying to cope with something outside of the status quo. The faster your body heals the faster you can get back into the gym.

Maybe you should consider taking a vitamin c supplement to help boost your immunce system. I take one and it seems to help.

I'm going through the sickness right now (head cold, stuffy nose). I'm trying to just get some rest and kick this cold as quick as possible so I can get back to my excercise routine.

Aaron, if I were in that situation, I would still stay on a healthy routine. Perhaps I would reduce my intensity somewhat... or only take a couple of days off but I would not go back to being non-active.

Persevere. the end results willbe worhth it.
