I would say as I had this problem of stemina the moment i tried not to push too hard I pushed my destination one mile further. The thing is when you are running dont try to stress you leg muscles too hard just stress em to the extent you dont lose the track and go with the rythem
kungfu saying : run like you are flying ...

Stamina is hard to build (and it may hurt, a lot). Like others said, be sure to jog instead of running. Pushing yourself is fine once you have a solid base. Even if you cannot jog the whole time, walk when you have to but try and go further next time before you have to walk. Grit your teeth and know that if you keep at it you'll eventually get a runners high.

You might want to stop the long-distance cardiovascular exercise if you want to gain some lean mass, if you aren't an endurance athlete or want to be, as it creates a catabolic state.

The URL is good. I have started with lifting some light weights. I usually don't get enough time in morning, so i use to run in evening and some gym thereafter.

I use to run around 3 miles a day and light weight lifting for 30 min a day.

I think this will help me to gain some pounds! Though its tough since I'm a vegetarian!!

Brava! Slogging or not, a 5K is a 5K. Now you just have to improve your slogginess.

I too enjoy a slow run (jog). I am working on loosing weight so that I can enlist with the Navy. The problem I am having started with a pair of Asics running shoes. I broke the shoes in before jogging in them; however, on the night I went jogging in them; I came back home with a swollen left hip that has been extremely painful eversince. I have ran in Asics before, and never had a problem. I took them back to the store, exchanged them for something else, and now have gotten lazy and just isn't jogging anymore. I noticed that when I try jogging with my IPod, that I cannot stay focused on my pace, and breathing. When I jog without my tunes, I am able to stay focused better on my pace and breathing, but jog flat footed and this in turn makes my hip hurt. I have gained 15 pounds since I took my ASVAB for the Navy, and that was only two weeks ago. I want so badly to be able to serve my country, but it just seems like the dream is slipping farther and farther away. I have to weigh 164 to have enlistment papers processed, and right now I weigh 213.

any pointers, suggestions, and tips would be greatly appreciated. I would like to increase my stamina. I am able to very slowly jog 4 miles. But have to be able to jog 1.5 miles in 15 minutes.

When I get the bug to run, I run on trails. I just get bored jogging the city streets. I find I can go much farther running trails than on the pavement. I don't know why. Anyway, maybe that'll help you too.

I have gone from hating running to running 3-5 times a week. I started with a running program called Couch to 5K you can find it on pod runner, Robert ullery and cool running. There is a c25k thread on here. I download the running programs on my I pod and go.
