I made a really yummy smoothie so I thought I'd share the recipe. Well, I didn't measure most of the ingredients so I'll share it the best I can.

Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries (1.5 cups?)
Skim milk (1 cup?)
1/2 cup lite vanilla yogurt
1.5 T flax seed
Honey (3 sec squirt?)
1 T peanut butter
6 ice cubes

Chuck it all in the blender and use one of the fancy settings to blend everything up. Mine actually has a smoothie setting so I use that.

This makes quite a bit so you may want to cut it down if it's just you or you can save some for later.

This does sound yummy. I never know what to do with flax seed, so this is something new to try. Thanks for sharing!

A woman after my own hear Rachael.

When making my smoothies/shakes its 'this/that/and somemore'

Measuring cups? bah why have more to clean up...

And if it doesn't fill the 32 once cup is it really worth making?

The answer for what to put flax seed in? Everything. Especially if you're using ground flax seed (which is ultimately better as it's easier for your body to digest), but sprinkle it over a salad or in your cereal and you won't even notice the taste but you get the benefits. I'll put one or two tablespoons in the pot when I make chili or soups... I'll sprinkle it in my sandwiches and I've even heard of, but not tried yet, people putting it on ice cream since what little taste it has is slightly nutty anyways.

Isn't there also flaxseed oil? What are the different properties between the oil and the actual seeds? My mother-n-law mixes a tablespoon in her oatmeal each morning.

Here's a question, how can I save some of my smoothie for later? I tried putting one of mine in the freezer, but obviously it turned into a rock. Do they keep in the fridge?

Wow, I don't think I could drink the whole thing in one sitting. I eat like 50 meals a day so a smoothie snack can't really be 600 Cal for me.

The only real difference between oil and seeds (like I said, ground flax > whole seeds since your body doesn't process all of the seeds before they "evacuate" your body) is fiber. Flaxseed oil doesn't have the fiber that the seeds do and fiber is good for you. As a result there's also fewer calories in the oil, but I don't believe it's significant and it's all good calories anyways.

Flax seed oil can also go rancid quite quickly! So it must be kept in the fridge.

Rachel... just put your smoothie in the fridge... add a wee more frozen fruit when you want it later so you don't dilute anymore... or if you want to dilute it...more ice...

I make green smoothies for myself and my 3 y/o twins. They are ok with their vegetables... but can always eat a green smoothie... on hot days I make it really thick... it's like soft serve Icecream...

Loosely pack your blender with 6-8 cups of rinsed raw spinach (NOT FROZEN)

Pour over a 1/2-1 cup of water or juice (keeping in mind juice is empty calories.)

I just found frozen ACIA I'm going to add that.

In lieu of water you can use a whole orange or 2 small ones...

Add a banana

Blend until smooth... and I mean SMOOTH... as the spinach needs to be torn down a lot.

Once done... I love to add.. frozen pinapple, mango, and peaches...

This will make a soft serve ice cream... want it more runny? Run your frozen fruit under water

This is soooooooo GOOD...It's bright green... We must eat a qtr. lb of spinach... and it's FULL of fiber

You don't need any sugar... and dairy products only if you want them in there... If you really need extra protein... I would throw in a scoop... but not for kids... too hard on their kidneys!

I love smoothies, but I use Salba instead of Flax. More benefits in a smaller serving. Also, when it's in liquid, it "inflates" a little like tapioca which makes it great in yogurt!
