So i got a new blender and I want to start making home-made smoothies as quick breakfasts, etc. I already know some good ideas for mixing as far as fruits, yogurt, juices, etc. BUT i want to add some PROTEIN - any suggestions? (wouldn't mind if the protein powder/mix/whatever would make the smoothie thicker too!) Thanks!

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they haev to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is NOTHING.

Get some chocolate whey powder and blend it with some peanut butter, plain yogurt, lowfat milk, ice and some plain oatmeal and it makes a pretty tasty breakfast smoothie that's loaded with good stuff!
I usually keep chocolate whey protein powder and some plain stuff (believe it or not, chocolate doesn't go with EVERYTHING ) and throw a teaspoon or two into the blender when it's smoothie time... I find a whole scoop can be overkill but maybe that's just me.

Whey or whey/casein powder will help add protein and also help thicken. But if you need other ideas, rolled oats as mentioned above will definitely thicken things. Psyllium husks will also do that and provide filling fiber.
Another thing... if you are trying to get more veggies in, toss in some spinach. It will turn your smoothie green, but you'll not taste it! Seriously. I toss it in with fruit smoothies, I toss it in with peanut butter/chocolate smoothies... never taste it.
Cottage cheese is another great way to add protein to a smoothie. You can also combo that with the whey protein... the combination is even better because it digests a little slower.
Oh, sometimes a tablespoon of some sugar-free Jell-O pudding can be a nice addition!

If you get Vanilla Whey you can pretty much add any flavour that you want, so it is flexible if you get bored easy.
I've added Hot Chocolate powder, Nesquik and other flavours as well as adding cream and ice cream when I was training for muscle and size or just when I'm training particularly hard.
I also have a habit of sticking raw eggs into my shakes which is not widely done by most people I know however they have great quantities of protein and are tasteless when properly mixed. I have heard arguements that say it is digested better this way as well as articles that say it can't be digested this way. I don't know which is right?

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

liquid egg whites (from the carton, not the egg). maybe doesn't sound great, but they're virtually tasteless and all protein.

Started going to the gym 2/2008. Doing mostly cardio / elliptical. I am shooting for looking drastically different by August for my wife's family reunion. My ultimate goal is to be 180 by the end of December.

I just purchased some liquid eggs today as well. I got some of the egg white only and one with some onions and peppers. I am looking forward to having some scrambled eggs with some mushrooms thrown in.

the vanilla whey stuff with fruits and orange juice concentrate is particularly fine. it's like mixing fruits with the vanilla/orange sherbet stuff that i ate all the time as a kid, from the big tubs.

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

I actually use a natural whey protein with no flavour added - tastes like (insert yucky-tasting thing here), but blend it in a smoothie and it just takes the flavour of the ingredients no prob.
Added benifit - no added flavour = less calories in the whey = more ingredients in the smoothie
