And the sauce, (it's always about the sauce), that makes it is not only awesome, it's HEALTHY. A win-win in my books.

So air pop up a batch ' corn, (and if you have no popper, fret not, you can use a T-Fal pan WITHOUT oil and it'll work perfectly once you learn about the secret. Click here for "perfect popcorn", no kidding), then grab a jar and shake up:

2 tablespoons of good olive oil
1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon of teriyaki marinade, (optional)
a few drops of tabasco
a shake of garlic powder
a few cranks of fresh black pepper
a tablespoon of nutritional yeast (LOVE THAT STUFF on the corn)

Toss it in and enjoy.

And experiment with other fav. sauces in the mix, like worchestershiresshore etc...

You're welcome, Sir Bean.

And with that, a wee bump for those into some newish snackin' ideas...

Wow, that's interesting.

I'm curious though, I've never noticed two of the ingredients Elise mentions: "high-quality popping kernels" or "nutritional yeast".

Branded microwave popcorn is so ubiquitous, I wonder if the naked popping corn is even on the shelves anymore. Maybe in a special store? I'll have to look a little closer next time. Nutritional yeast also sounds interesting as a way of adding flavor without salt or chees or too many calorie.

Obsolete skills dot com talks about preparing (hydrating) corn to make it poppable the old fashioned way. Just wait 3 weeks ...!

"Store corn in a hermetically sealed glass jar, waiting at least 3 weeks for the humidity to distribute through the kernels. The longer you wait the more thorough the hydration."

Heheh, well 3 weeks is a tad long to feed a craving, IMHO.

I usually just use plain ole store-bought popping corn, which is down to one brand of choices here, but at least it still exists.

And I used to think "nutritional yeast", was the same things as "brewer's yeast", but I see now that though similar, they are each rendered differently and nutritional yeast is what's usually found on the bio-shelves at healthfood stores/sections.

I love adding that stuff to salads too, nice and rich in the B's.

I think you just have to look, Phil. I buy plain popping corn all the time. In my store, it's in the same area as the microwave version.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I just snarfed down a HUGE bowl of this stuff, (the bowl escaped with its life by just a margin, ahhhhh PMS), and dammit does it ever hit the ole spot.

I even added *gasp* some salt and I'll likely pay that price tomorrow, but I don't give a damn!

That is all, carry on then...

it's just the time investment that gets to me. frank's is right there, prepared, ready to go.

but nutritional yeast is awesome stuff. i don't remember it tasting great, but the b-vitamins will put you into some conniptions.

I quite dig the buttery accent it lends to popcorn, the plus without that stuff. Just a tablespoon or two, no crazed amounts or anything...

And as far as the time it takes? Not even a minute when you shake up the ingredients in a little jar. For me, (who loves to cook, and in a speedy fashion), this is well worth the tasty outcome.
