Hmmmmmm:

Aside from acting as an appetite suppressant, red pepper also seems to increase the number of calories burned, particularly after high-fat meals.

Might have to test this out some time...

For those of you that aren't familiar with Scoville Ratings, 800,000 Scoville Units is about 300-400 times hotter than a jalapeno pepper.

that will hurt.

I ate half a habanero about 10 days ago and it was an interesting experience.

I've bitten into (and chomped down on), a capsaicin twice in my life, (both times unknowingly, if you can believe that!), and both times I was convinced that my ears were bleeding.

INSANE.

yeah that is insane. I imagine if you would have swallowed pure capsaicin, it would probably make your throat swell so bad you wouldn't be able to breathe.

OMG Dave!

I use habaneros regularly, but only minced. And I mean MINCED!

Thanks for the rating scale comparison, Drew.

Minu, I loved that part too, but, even more exciting, capsaicin also appears to increase your metabolic rate.

I shudder even thinking about that. Just the memory of those experiences is potent enough.

local bar (about 2 blocks from where I live), has 'poppers' - jalapenos filled w/ cheddar and fried, and they offer 'roulette poppers', where one also has an injection of capsaicin extract. It is insane. Both times I've tried it w/ friends I have gotten the 'special' one... It makes your face numb.

Nice. Wonder how much is needed to make a significant difference?

I think this thread has by far THE most usage of the word "insane" on all of traineo.

It's INSANE.

Do you think they're using "Satan's Blood?" (Read the article everyone... I don't mean the blood of Satan!)

Unfortunately can't get to your blog at work, but I'll peep that when I get to mi casa (after a nap maybe!)

Personally, I get warm after eating spicy foods. Could that be the old metab. kickin' into gear or a food allergy (as I've been told?)

I don't like mincing habaneros... No matter how many times i wash my hands in the next couple hours, when I eventually have to pee I end up wanting to die.

Uh...pure cap is 4 times more powerful than pepper spray...are you sure you bit into the pure stuff? That would probably cause some sort of irreversible nerve damage.

The worst I did was a tsp of Mad Dog 357,000 and it made me cone vomit for a bit. It seemed infinitely worse than the 250,000 I had in Dave's Ultimate Insanity. I can't exactly process how a human being could possible ingest something that is 16,000,000 scoville.

Whoa, that Satan's Blood is------------------the INSANE-IEST!

All I've ever messed with (on purpose!), is Grace Scotch Bonnet Sauce, a measley 350,000 units, I think.

They looked like these, (one time red, the next time green); aren't these known as capsaicin?

I'm no pepper expert, to say the least.

Minu, I think your peppers were the first type mentioned on the pepper ident. website: C. baccatum.

Same heat rating as cayenne, though and just as tear-bringing.

OMG! After watching the video, you will see a bunch of small videos at the bottom of the screen...

... scroll all the way to the right (blue one) and watch "Most Tobasco Sauce Drunk in 30 Seconds."
