I'm looking for some easy snacks that I can take to work. Unfortunately, I'm VERY picky and I have limited space to store food at the office. Any suggestions?

I love nuts, so portable and a lil go a long way, like peanuts, (in the shell, not in oil).

And almonds & dried apricots together is a real nice combo.

Try roasting up some pine nuts, (in a dry teflon pan, no need for oil), the flavor is just YUM.

Kind of the same as Minu with the nut/dried fruit, I really like dried mango and cashews together. Dried cherries are super too. I also love roasted soybeans, but just like with nuts, make sure they aren't oil roasted.

*shrugs* I always bring a bunch of bananas or a few apples. They don't really take up THAT much room.

Nutri valley bars, they are AMAZING. Very delish, tons of good nutrients, and I got some between 130-160 calories.

or cereal (in a reusable bag), 100 calorie packs, fruits & veggies, rice cakes... list is endless. My pantry is filled with nothing but healthy snacks, so much so (I am obsessed with small snacks as I munch throughout the day) that my mom made me my own shelf.. the only with snacks on it

I like to hard-boil a bunch of eggs in advance and take 1 to work as desired. Also a typically try to take a yogurt to work (to eat an hour or 2 into the day)

I have a goal to eat a lot more fruits and vege's so I'll be packing a lot more of that to work shortly.. hah.

Dried cherries are super too.

THOSE sound YUM. Too bad so many healthy things are only available at healthfood stores here, and even then, the selection is not always impressive, ditto on the prices.

I'd LOVE a blueberry/cherry/blackberry combo of dried fruits--I imagine with walnuts it'd be super-tastey.

I have one drawer in my desk at the office with stuff like:
nutrigrain bars
Fiberone Bars
low carb chips (for when I just got to have them)
single serving packs of tuna (my neighbors love me)
Oatmeal
South Beach Protein bars (small ones)

And then every day I carry a cooled lunch box thingy with:
Hard boiled egg
carrots
celery
walnuts
pineapple
cottage Cheese
Cheese stick
Apple
Banana

And anything else that can find it's way into the bag, but the above are some of the main ones. Some days are better then others, but I don't stress over it too much. Just no candy bars or anything like that - I get my fix for that from the Fiber One Bars.

I'm with jason, I'll hard boil a bunch of eggs and grab one or two on the way out in the morning. I also like Bananas since they aren't as messy as other fruit and I've been known to grab bags of pre-cut, pre-washed carrots, celery , or snow pea's or whatever they are called.

For a saltier snack, I often nibble on lo-fat, preservative-free, lo-sodium lunch meats--either turkey or chicken. For the days that I'm really counting the cals. and carbs, they work quite well. Not bad with a lil dijon either.

Anyone have any advice on how to eat an orange.. I love em but they are too damn messy for work ... this is a pretty silly questions but I bet there are some slick ways I dont know about to peel or prepare an orange.

Best thing I can think of is doing it up ole-school ahead of time--pealing and separating the pieces and throwing them in a tupperware container to retain the moisture.

Fruits are the best snacks, especially apples and bananas. I like trail mix with a lot of dried fruits and nuts. I've recently have been having yogurt as a snack and it keeps me filled for a while. I also like energy bars like Clif bars, Luna bars, and Odwalla bars.
