These cookies are so yummy- especially if you have a South Beach trained palate. By that I mean that you aren't used to tons of sugar anymore! ;-p

1 1/2 Cups Oats
1/2 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
1/4 C chopped pecans (optional)
2 bananas
5 Tbsps oil

Mix all the dry ingredients in one bowl. Mash up the bananas with the oil in another bowl. Mix the two together. Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

If you're on South Beach, two of these equals one carb serving. These are, of course, not suitable for phase one.

Ooooh that sounds good, but do they taste much of banana? (I usually avoid them)

I know what you mean... Bananas aren't my fave either unless they're still a bit green on the ends. But I guess with all the healthy eating my tastes are changing! These cookies are somewhat banana flavored... I don't know how strong I would say it is. But in conjunction with the other flavors, it works pretty well! And you could experiment with upping the cinnamon to mask it.

You *could* try substituting the banana with unsweetened apple sauce! I would guess one to one and a half cups should do it; and as it's more liquid, you may be able to omit the oil as well. If I try it, I'll post back results.

I was thinking I would try this recipe with Walnut oil and Walnuts in place of the Pecans; or almond oil with almonds etc.

It sounds yummy - thanks!

Okay... assuming the recipe yields 20 cookies, which is what I generally get, then each cookie has:

85 calories 4.8g fat 9.4g carbs 1.5g protein

Well who ever heard of an ideal cookie?

I don't know exactly what your complaint is - but you have to look at what's in these cookies. Lots of whole grain, fruit, and healthy fat. That's a lot to get from a cookie! For a balanced snack, I usually have them with a glass of milk.

The kcals seem a bit high, although there does seem to be some nutritional value. I think that's a snack that I wouldn't mind treating myself to occasionally, but due to the high amount of calories in each cookie, probably wouldn't make it a regular snack.

I think oreos have ~55 calories and the low-fat oreos contain ~38. I don't buy them, so I can't confirm this, but those kcal counts are low in comparison.

Thanks for sharing the recipe nonetheless. I look forward to trying it out.

See - that's when you really get into a difference between strategies. I'm all about healthy carbs. Whole grains. No white flour, almost no white sugar. (the one exception is my occasional square of REALLY dark good chocolate) No artificial sweeteners or chemical junk. Oreos - delectable as I once considered them - are 55 calories of garbage.

But either strategy can be effective - either watching the quality or the quantity - or both! I'm becoming a diet relativist. If it works for you and it's healthy - GO For it!!

Oh - I've found these cookies are also yummy with pumpkin pie spice and walnuts instead of cinnamon and pecans. And a little touch of real vanilla is a great addition too!

And I just discovered, if you need a little more protein, that a small smackerel of natural peanut butter is a yummy touch!

These sound really good, I'm gonna have to try making them. But I think I'm going to do what Jem said and trade the bananas and oil out for applesauce.

I'm with you blest, if I'm going to treat myself to something I want it to be high quality stuff that I really like. Somewhere along the way processed junk food has lost its appeal to me. It no longer feels like a treat. Plus it makes me feel bleh...

Thanks for posting this! I'm always on the lookout for good recipes.
