My fitness regimen includes stationary cycling, light weight training and lots of walking around NYC. I'm a graduate of WeightWatchers and an enthusiastic advocate of its balanced approach to weight loss. I'm sure that I drink too much coffee and get too little sleep. :)
My goals are to maintain my weight in a healthy BMI/BF % range and forestall the toll of advancing age. :)
I think Traineo's established a great community and appreciate the support and information we share.

Starting a broad, general thread for listing the above.
I just sampled Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps yesterday...not bad!
And my typical before dinner snack is baby carrots with 1 oz. of hummus.

I'm a grad student at KU and a server at the Improv. I also have a husband and 4 furbabies which keep me busy! I feel like i don't have much time to invest in keeping myself healthy and i get really frustrated and lose motivation!! I just re-joined Weight Watchers and hope that provides a swift kick in the rear! I diligently followed the plan in 2005 and lost quite a bit of weight, but then I got busy and poor and quit the plan altogether!

one of my favorite snacks, probably not overly healthy, but def not overly unhealthy is the Nature Valley Sweet 'n' Salty Almond bars. they have a staying power of a couple of hours and hit both sweet and salty cravings.
i think they're worth every bit of the 3 pts weight watchers says they are!

Last week i tried one of those protein bars....not sure the exact name but i believe it was one that body builders sponsor (E.A.S. ?) anyway it says on the package that it has 30grams of protein with glutamine. It wasn't bad with a cup of coffee but not sure if all that other chemicals in there is a good thing....and the hefty price.

I second Nature Valley! Best stuff you can grab off a regular grocer's shelf.
I've tried protein bars and don't like them much. I'll chug some whey protein in the morning and night to get everything I need there.

The heaviest I've been is over 170lbs in 2005 but I made the effort to eat healthier and start exercising and I managed to lose a lot of weight. Now I want to get fit and improve my health further and this looks like the place to do it!
What has surprised me most about exercise is the positive effect it has on my mental health. I suffered from severe depression for several years and exercise has played a huge part in my recovery and subsequent management of the condition.
In short, this is not a 'diet' or a fad for me; it's a lfestyle change because really that's the only way to do it :)

I like snacking on a mixture of dried berries - they've totally replaced sweets, for me. I eat loads of Tesco's Berry Mix.

Hi I am Kat, I am seventeen and I started this school year at boarding school. Although it's not college, I have the same problems with living in dorms, going to the school's dining hall, and staying up late finishing work and studying. Luckily I haven't gained the "freshman 15" (like a good majority of my friends have), but I have gained some weight and would like to learn how to eat right in an environment with a wide variety of [mediocre] foods. Have you ever been to a buffet and decided to try a little of each, and before you knew it your plate is piled high? Imagine that for every meal every day! It's a slow learning process but I would love it if you would like to be my motivator. Just message me! : D Thanks

i've always wanted to be healthy and in shape, but been too lazy to really do it...until now. something in me finally said: "hey cindy. it's time to get your shit together." so i did. and i feel great.
i am currently on hiatus from my studies at columbia university in new york city. i'm a sociology major and hope to do my thesis and graduate work on the complex relationship between humans and drugs. i hope, ultimately, to split my time between tenured professorship, musicianship, and mothership.

Hi! I am trying to lose my freshman 25. I am trying to lose 30 pounds to get back to my original weight. At the same time, I want to be lean and toned. I enjoy activities like running on the treadmill, doing the elliptical and dancing.

I like carrot sticks. I also like nonfat yogurt, especially Danon's Light and Fit. Or an apple, nice and crunchy.
I like Luna bars too. They are great for breakfast on the go. But if I have time, I try to eat oats.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

The snack food I miss the most in my new lifestyle are chips! Good old salty chips, cheesy doritos, crunchy fritos...you name it.
A replacement I have found (and love) for the occasional craving I still get for chips is more than filled by the variety of soy chips made by Revival Soy. YUMMY!

My favorite snack is boiled edamame. With just a little salt they are great. Great nutrition, too.

I've already come a long way so far - I started off my lifestyle change weighing 276lbs when I was 18 years old, barely exercised, and was just generally very lethargic and lacking in energy. Now I'm nearly half that weight, exercise at least once a day, and have never felt so good or had so much energy! Now I just want to lose the last 25lbs or so and find fun healthy ways to add to my exercise routines and maintain my new lower weight!

I've always quite liked raw vegetables like celery, cucumber, carrots and bell peppers with various dips. You can make low fat hummus really easily, salsa is fabulous as there are so many taste combinations you can have, tzatziki or yoghurt & mint dip is great, and you can also make low-fat versions of taramasalata and baba ghanush as well.
If you want a nice hot snack and are prepared to wait, then I like stuffed mushrooms - buy the big flat type, wrap in a parcel of tin foil, roast them for 20 minutes in a medium hot oven (around 200C, approx 400F I think), and prepare a filling for them. A grilled slice of bacon with a soft poached egg is nice, or a scrambled egg with a little smoked salmon. Or you can have a handful of bacon bits mixed in with a little ricotta cheese, or dips or anything you fancy really!
My other favourite is cooked aubergine (egg-plant) slices in a toasted wholemeal pitta bread with dark green salad leaves (watercress and rocket are great for that peppery flavour) and a spoonful of Greek yoghurt. If you're feeling adventurous, aubergine is great in that it soaks up any flavour you throw at it (much like zucchini), so you can marinade it in lemon juice, paprika, cumin, a little mint and coriander before cooking it and it comes out very Middle Eastern indeed! I'd recommend griddling it - if you have a George Foreman that works a treat, but otherwise a non-stick griddle pan will do just as well. If you panfry it and want low fat, do not use oil as the aubergine will soak up all of that too!

I am a rugger/web developer and, as it turns out, weighing 260 as a web developer doesn't gain me as much as it does in the scrum... ;] I'm looking to get down to a solid 210 lbs now. So far, Traineo has helped me to remain accountable to myself and I love it!

As part of my effort to get fit, I thought it would be nice to try to offer my exercise up to a good cause. I've decided to join the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride in June and will be riding the 50 MILE COURSE!
I would very much appreciate any donations you could make to help me in the fight against cancer. Thank you!

I definitely second the boiled edamame and I'll add NuGo bars (the peanut butter ones). Like most of the protein / nutrition bars, NuGo bars are fairly high in sugar, but they're not too too bad.

I like to cut whole wheat pita into wedges and place them in the toaster oven for about 2 minutes or so. When the edges lift and slightly brown, they are ready to serve. I mix plain, non-fat greek yogurt with mint and cucumber for instant tzatziki dip. Serve alongside hummus or baba ghanouj or both.
I'm down with edamame, as well. I keep them prepared in the fridge if I have a late night snack attack!

I like the Luna bars, too, and the Danon 60 calorie yogurts, but the one thing I've been surprised I like is the unsweetened applesauce. You can sprinkle a little Splenda on top, but it really doesn't need it. And I don't even like apples all that much!
My favorite splurge is the Jello (refrigerated) 60 calorie sugar-free puddings (nice portion control, too). We have those at night if our calories are still under the limit!

I usually take some plain yogurt and add some sweet fruit as well as something crunchy (fiber cereal, or occasionally less healthy alternative.. ;))
I also like eating carrots plain, though not sure how common that is.

Kashi TLC granola bars, both the chewy and crunchy kinds, are great as well. A good, light snack.
